COME, SEE A MAN !... "Tennis Anyone?"

Ever have a thought? ... Just a simple, quiet thought or reflection? I mean, not a prayer... or even a thought toward God, but just a casual thought about someone or something that, for all accounts, seems irrelevant to anything or anyone.

I have.

And first, before I go any further, let me say this.

God is personal. And very, very intimate.

One sunny day in 2012 (?), a friend and I decided to drive to a shady city park to relax. It was crowded and getting hot so we parked in an isolated lot by a tennis court nestled beneath some Oak trees.

Quietly, we sat, watching the tennis players half heartedly hit balls back and forth.

"You ever play tennis? I asked. "Nah." Friend replied.

"I did a little. Took lessons for a minute, when a little girl. But, I do remember, when visiting my dad on weekends, hitting a tennis ball against a Bank's back wall that was directly in front of my dad's apartment... it was fun."

In silence, we continued to watch the players when I said, "It still looks like fun. We're not too old. We could do it."...

More silence. And then... the thought...

Who am I kidding? I know I have, stashed away at home, a couple of old yard sale rackets that were given to me, but...

I need someone to actually play with... and then... I need tennis balls... and maybe I am too old...

With every thought the mental conversation became more and more negative. For a moment, I once again, felt so alone.

Within seconds I felt the sudden plunge into total discouragement... when suddenly...

Over the fence came flying through the air the brightest yellow tennis ball I had ever seen. And
yes, it landed right next to my car and rolled to a complete stop.

In awe, I sat. There
was no doubt my Lord sent that tennis ball to me.

"Ok. How 'bout this, Lord. It takes two to play... I probably need two tennis balls...

I got out of my car to retrieve the tennis ball, scanned the surrounding ground for another... and there it was.

Tennis ball number two.

And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.
